Activities & Leisure,  Isle of Skye

Skye is renowned for its spectacular scenery and extensive heritage. Whether you want any activity packed break or quiet relaxtion, Skye has it all on your doorstep.

The Cuillin Hills, the Red Hills and Blaven have long been favourites with climbers and walkers. The rugged peaks of the Cuillin dominate the island from almost every angle on a clear day and form a range of hills that have been compared to the Alps for their drama and beauty. With twenty Munros between the Cuillin and Red Hills, Skye is a hillwalkers paradise. Less demanding walking can be found on the Trotternish Ridge for those that don’t have a desire to venture into the high hills.

If you don't fancy upland Skye, the deeply indented coastline means you are never far from the bracing air of the sea with spectacular views of jagged cliff tops, secluded beaches of the purest sand and a vast array of sea life waiting to be discovered.

Tumbling rivers surge down from the mountains, over the moors, through the lochs and out to sea. These offer a huge range of activities from kayaking, sailing or windsurfing to more tranquil pursuits such as canoeing, fishing or coastal boat trip.

Criss crossed by footpaths, tracks and peaceful country lanes, Skye is ideally suited to on and off road cycling. Bikes (for both adults and children) can be hired from a number of locations across the island and often come with suggested routes if you are not sure where to go.

If you fancy taking to the saddle but don’t want to do the pedalling, pony trekking is a great way to see the countryside. Organised treks are available from a number of stables on Skye with every standard of rider catered for.

Skye has one of the Britain’s most picturesque golf courses. This 9 hole course has two tees for most of the holes giving a different hole for your first and second rounds. With incredible views out of the Sound of Raasay. It might be hard to keep your mind on your game! Never mind, just enjoy the location in the knowledge that you have played a course that is unique even in Scotland.

Diving, fishing (river, loch and sea), bird watching, whale watching, boat trips, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, pony trekking, walking, climbing, golf, mountain biking.  Skye could have been built as an outdoor activity enthusiasts paradise!

Craft shops, heritage museums, distillery tours, garden visits, historic castles, archaeological sites,  we could go on but what ever you are looking for, you will find it on the Isle of Skye.

Skye is a photographer's and artist's paradise due to the stunning views, crystal clear air and unique light effects. With great views around ever corner, you will be spoilt for choice for aspects to paint, draw or photograph. The extraordinary scenery of the Trotternish peninsula, with the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing being one of the most intriguing parts of the island.
